Princess Beatrice Party Hardy!

Tata was selected from Louis Tussaud’s Waxworks Pattaya to be one of 10 Thai icons (such as Bird Thongchai McIntyre and Paradorn Srichaphan) which will be among the 60 international celebrities to be immortalised at the soon-to-open Pattaya waxworks museum.

Tata jokingly said “Make sure you make me look skinny” to three artists from Silpakorn University (Thailand’s leading university in fine arts) and a photographer.

The artists took hundreds of measurements and photos of her to ensure her wax figure would be lifelike. The tattoos on her neck (her late mother’s name, Bunchorn, written in Thai), wrist (a star as she’s a superstar) and ankle (a butterfly as she travels a lot) were also photographed.

Not photographed were tattoos on her belly (her name) and her back (a clef).

I stumbled across a news story about this group yesterday. As I read about these women, the more I became interested knowing their full story.

Well a little Google here, a little Google there, quick search of YouTube, and POW! I had a pretty cool story to share… and a decent new pop song as a bonus.

Thailand is believed to have one of the largest transsexual populations in the world. Academics estimate at least 10,000 live in Thailand, though some put the figure 10 times higher.

Even the conservative number would mean that per capita, Thailand has many more transsexuals than most developed countries.

Executives at Sony seeing a prospective market niche and potential to attract a mainstream audience, launched a development project to create the next female pop group sensation.

Hollywood actress ANGELINA JOLIE has issued an emotive plea to the Thai government - urging officials to free thousands of Burmese refugees who have been held in camps for up to 20 years.

The star visited the Ban Mai Nai Soi refugee centre in Northern Thailand on Wednesday (04Feb09) as part of her role as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations (U.N.).

Jolie was seen spending time with the residents, talking to young women about their situation and handing out soccer balls to youngsters at the camp.

Thai officials have yet to grant official refugee status to the 5,000 Burmese civilians who fled to the country following conflict across the border in Myanmar, previously known as Burma.

The 111,000 registered refugees who live in nine camps along the Thai-Myanmar border are not allowed to venture outside the camps to work or receive higher education.

And Jolie has now called on Thai politicians to take action.

She says in a statement via the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), "I was saddened to meet a 21-year-old woman who was born in a refugee camp, who has never even been out of the camp and is now raising her own child in a camp.

"With no foreseeable chance that these refugees will soon be able to return to Burma (Myanmar), we must find some way to help them work and become self reliant. As with all people, they deserve to have their human rights respected."

Tata Young is a well-known Thai pop singer whose celebrity goes beyond Thailand frontiers. Born from an American father and Thai mother she's what is locally called a luk kreung: a mix.
As a result she shares the best characteristics of the two sides: she is more than pretty, she is definitely hot.

And she's not afraid to claim her beauty to the world in her songs.
Indeed she's a singer like we said and a good one! One that rocks!

Wonder Girls on Pen-Pleum a Thai TV Program which aired on 12 May 2008

JYP's Wonder Girls were in Thailand lately, much to the delight of their Thai fans. And i am talking about many many fans...around 10,000 of 'em.

The "Tell Me" dance fever has latched on like a contagious bug in Bangkok and girls and boys alike hopped onto stage to show that they know the Korean girl group's dance routine. If you know the moves and watch the girls on TV... well you can imagine the excitement and the screams when The Wonder Girls got onto stage and performed their fluid "Tell Me" dance. The fans screamed and shouted! I bet you would too!!

For the New York Asian Film Festival at the IFC Center, I was keen to see the one with sneak-attack breakdancers but Sherry convinced me to see Dasepo Naughty Girls instead. I must give naughty girls a slight edge over sneak-attack breakdancers. Without breaking a sweat, Dasepo should qualify as the strangest movie I will see this year.

If I’ve learned anything from the films of Godard, it’s to what degree structure and convention bind other films. I most recently saw his Alphaville but that took place in a future Paris overruled by an omniscient, evil computer and therefore had an excuse to be wacky. Two or Three Things I Know About Her is even more unconventional because it contains the same non-sequitur philosophizing of language/meaning, thought/reality and change/stasis as Alphaville but takes place in present-day Paris (1966), all ennui and contemporary fashions in Kool-Aid colors. Characters address the camera directly, talking off-handedly about what they’re doing, what they’ve done and what they’re going to do. The narrator whispers every time he speaks. A child asks his mother what language is and she replies, “Language is the house man lives in.” You know: the sort of stuff that gets French films slapped as snotty and ponderous.
